Why Does Friendship Matter?
A short book on the lost art of friendship, for anyone who has more contacts than friends.
Modern life makes friends easy to collect and hard to keep. Drawing on Aristotle, Augustine, and Scripture, Firestone and Pierce ask what friendship actually is, what its kinds and boundaries are, and how to become the sort of person others can befriend. It is the most accessible thing Firestone has written: ninety pages, no footnote you have to read, and an annotated reading list at the end of every chapter. The book grew out of a 2017 Christ on Campus Initiative essay and a research grant on friendship in the church.
